I have been participating on the internet in various hifi sites for almost 20 years. Looking at things now makes one really weary of the word «progress».In many ways I miss the earlier USENET newsgroups the most. Posting is super fast and the lack of picture hosting is a real blessing in many ways. Things were simpler then.Then I created my own Yahoo Group (see link), but I really find the format cumbersome, and now only maintain the site for archival purposes. Who knows, one day I may re-vamp the thing, but too little time….A few years ago, before the establishment of this blog, I had been active in review33, a site that still a useful second-hand forum (link below). Unfortunately, HK is small and people actually get to meet, which is NOT an advantage for an internet forum. The traffic evolved into 同仁活動, Chinese for insiders’ game. There were few honest opinions, and feuds and flames developed over the littlest things. Then there were splinter groups, IMITATORS that are of even more of a 同仁活動 insider nature. That diluted everything and what got lost is HiFi. It would be fair to say most of the forums in HK now contain more junk than value.Since then I have concentrated on my Blog. It is nice to be able to archive everything well and not let things get covered by waves of garbage. Writing articles take lot more than than posting in forums. Many have long periods of gestation and repeated revisions and editing. В связи с этим от новых наушников я ожидала качественного звука и мощных басов. Так и есть – нижние частоты здесь воспроизводятся так же чётко, как на более дорогих Liberty Air 2 Pro. Благодаря своей энергичности, Soundcore Life P3 понравятся всем любителям современной электронной музыки и хип-хопа.

Хорошо справляются наушники и со средними, а также верхними частотами. Удивительно, как даже один качественный драйвер способен выдавать настолько сбалансированный по всему диапазону частот звук. Но если сравнить эту модель с Air 2 Pro, очевидным станет факт, что диапазон частот здесь не такой широкий, а звуковая сцена не менее объёмная.

Звучание такого же качества можно получить от более дешёвых Earfun Free 2, однако, в них нет ANC, приложения и многих других функций.

The XD Details

The P3ESR XD is the evolution of the 40th Anniversary model. The sealed box 2-way design. The sound is more resolving, and a touch more forward than the standard P3ESR. It still uses British-made poly capacitors and Harbeth’s ultrapure copper internal cable.

Harbeth’s proprietary RADIAL2 technology from the larger Harbeth speakers has trickled down (more like «over») to the heart of the P3ESR loudspeaker. The driver is designed in-house, the special 110mm (5″) bass/midrange driver offers the legendary clarity and naturalness of the larger Harbeth speakers.

Harbeth history

Harbeth was founded in 1977 by ex-BBC engineer Hugh Dudley Harwood who created the name by joining the first three letters of his surname to the last four letters of his wife Elizabeth’s Christian name. He founded the company to commercialise the use of polypropylene as a material to form speaker cones.

Harwood worked in the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Research Department (Engineering Division) for nearly twenty years and was instrumental in the design and development of many loudspeakers for the BBC, including the famous LS3/5 and LS 3/5A broadcast monitors, the manufacture of which the BBC subsequently licensed to various famous British speaker manufacturers, including KEF, Rogers and Chartwell. Although Harwood always gets the credit for the design, he was aided by BBC designers Michael Whatton and Reg Mills, as well as Gordon Monteath, who was Head of the Research Department at the time.

They designed the LS3/5 because the BBC required an accurate, low-distortion loudspeaker with good dynamic range in order that its studio operators could use them in tightly confined spaces to monitor broadcasts and, at that time, despite a well-documented search that evaluated dozens of contenders from right around the world, it could find no commercially-produced small loudspeaker that met its stringent requirements for naturalness and sonic neutrality.

Harwood and his team first came up with the LS3/5, then the LS3/5A, and followed up with the lesser-known LS 3/7 and LS 5/8 models. It was while developing these that Harwood became dissatisfied with the Bextrene copolymer being used to manufacture the cones for these speakers. One issue was that it was difficult to maintain consistency from batch to batch, so they ended up throwing many cones away. 

Another issue was that raw Bextrene tended to have a ‘quacking’ sound at certain frequencies, and so all the cones, once formed, had to then be damped by applying a coating, which was known as ‘doping the cone’. Because this doping was done by hand, it was not only labour-intensive, but also meant that every cone was slightly different, because the coating could not be applied consistently.

It was because of all these issues that Harwood was instrumental in pioneering the use of polypropylene copolymer cones at the BBC, and while he was there, patented – in his own name – the use of polypropylene as a cone material (UK Patent 1563511). In order to commercialise his patent, Harwood left the BBC and established Harbeth. His first speaker (originally called the ‘HL Monitor’, but now retrospectively identified as the ‘HL1’ – was the first loudspeaker in the world to use a polypropylene cone.

Harwood used polypropylene cones for more than a decade until he switched to using the then-new TPX material, first in the HL Monitor Mk4, and later the original Compact (which was designed by Alan Shaw). 

Although TPX was superior to polypropylene as a cone material, it was difficult to source, and it was because of this difficulty that Harwood and Shaw applied for and won a British Government Science & Engineering Research Council research grant that allowed them to thoroughly examine alternative material solutions and then invent, patent and trademark their own plastic formulation: RADIAL .

Harbeth is now solely owned by Alan A. Shaw, who is also its sole speaker designer. 

He says that all his designs are still based on the BBC’s loudspeaker legacy and on progressive improvements, one of which was the development of the improved RADIAL2 cone material.

Чехол изготовлен не из самого качественного пластика, поэтому через некоторое время перестанет выглядеть таким, как с нового. Кроме того, разъём USB-C не закрыт резиновой заглушкой, поэтому туда будет набиваться грязь. А вот качество сборки и материалов самих наушников – великолепное.

Наушники Soundcore Life P3 идеально сидят в ушах и не вызывают дискомфорта после долгого прослушивания. Так как это внутриканальная конструкция, она неплохо блокируют внешние звуки, даже без включения функции ANC. Из пяти пар насадок разных размеров вы без труда подберёте подходящий вариант для себя.

Управление и удобство

Сенсоры поддерживают три действия: однократное и двойное нажатия, а также нажатие с удерживанием в течение двух секунд. Таким образом, получается по три действия на наушник, каждому из которых можно назначить разные функции, в приложении Soundcore для смартфона.

Пользователю доступен выбор из следующих функций: убавить или прибавить громкость, переключиться на предыдущий или следующий трек, остановить/продолжить воспроизведение, вызвать голосового ассистента, включить режим прозрачности и переключиться между разными режимами активного шумоподавления.

Увы, в Life P3 нет датчика снятия/приближения, который ставил бы музыку на паузу, когда вы вынимаете наушник. Видимо, эта функция припасена ANKER для более дорогих моделей.

Активное шумоподавление и микрофоны

Это так называемое – гибридное шумоподавление, потому что технологией анализируется как окружающий шум, так и то, что слышит пользователь. Благодаря этому, качественнее устраняются внешние звуки.

В Soundcore не только добавили активное подавление шума в Life P3, но и несколько режимов для разных ситуаций, а также режим прозрачности. Со своей работой ANC справляется хорошо – пусть более дорогие модели вроде Liberty Air 2 Pro здесь лучше, Life P3 позволяют в полной мере насладиться музыкой, даже в шумной обстановке.

Шесть микрофонов на Soundcore Life P3 помогают отфильтровать окружающие звуки и во время разговоров по телефону. Ваш собеседник практически не услышит посторонние шумы, даже если вы находитесь в центре города, в час пик.

Итог

Наушники ANKER Soundcore Life P3 заняли промежуточное место между бюджетными Life P2 и более дорогими Liberty Air 2 Pro. Появилось много отличных функций и большой выбор насадок, хотя некоторые опции почему-то пропали, а качество технологии ANC не лучшее в сегменте.

Качество звука немного выше среднего, особенно по сравнению с Liberty Air 2 Pro, не хватает и кодека aptX, для музыки в высоком качестве. С другой стороны, доступно великолепное приложение Soundcore. В нём вы найдёте практически любую нужную для беспроводных наушников настройку. Радует и время автономной работы, хотя от Anker другого ожидать и не следовало.

Стоит ли покупать

Стоят новые Soundcore Life P3 от 5 тыс. р., что немного дороговато. Но если со временем они подешевеют, то станут превосходным вариантом по соотношению цены и качества.
